Apps for Adding Text to an Image
Path on: Swipe to Type was an app recommended to me on twitter recently. This is a very cool little app. Draw a line and then type the text and the text follows the line you have drawn. I love that I can get students to annotate photos to document their learning and allow them to incorporate some design elements as well. These can be added to a collage or uploaded to their blogs. Here are a series of apps that allow you to add text to photos, most of them free. Enjoy!

Pirates on the iPad
O.K. I know this is a little bit of holiday indulgence - but who doesn't love Pirates. Here are a whole bunch of Pirate related apps for making yourself look like a pirate, reading and learning with pirates, right through to playing like a pirate. I hope these are as much fun for you and your kids as we had researching them. Now go and make yourself look like a pirate!

Video Collage Apps
I love this idea of multiple videos on the same screen. We did a blog post on Photo Collages in 2011 and I have seen students use collage apps for all sorts of educational activities from collating images to creating presentation backgrounds right through to annotating procedures that document their learning. These would also be great for school assemblies.
What I like about these Video Collage apps is that you can have multiple videos playing on the screen at once. As a PE teacher I would have the same physical activity like javelin shown from 5 different angles. I could have different aspects of a narrative being played out simultaneously. I could even be investigating all the different characteristics of an interesting insect at the same time. I love it!
I going to set myself a target of presenting with one of these apps as my presentation background and let the power of the video image tell the story. Here are some I like.

Apps on Antarctica
Antarctica is one of those places that is interesting to students across a range of year groups. It is an area of research where young students can find out about the places and explorers. It is also a area where older students can delve into the scientific research that is being release about the icy continent and its changing nature under man's influence. Here are some apps that students can use as an intro to the world of Antarctica.
Apps as the Basis of Learning Activities:
It would be very easy to put together a series of activities based on these apps. The students become content creators based on the information and narratives contained within the apps.
